I looked at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/963707 but not understandable and too complex.. new to Firefox... why doesn't Firefox have a 'remove' button for this add-on in the add-ons manager / extensions area like the rest of the add-ons have?

I believe that since it is in the extensions folder that is would be listed in the about:addons page/ addons menu that can be accessed from the three line menu button on the top right of the window. (On the left, click on "Plugins")

If this is not the case, its likely not a default plugin/or an unsigned addon. Since its third party I am assuming that this is why it is not detected.
