thank you for following up. you appear to have a user.js file present in your profile, which could interfere and is sometimes a sign of malware on a system (unless you have created it yourself). please go through these steps:

  1. reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > help (?) > about firefox in order to trigger a manual update check.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system.

hello, could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

Will do - all you suggest and then come back here. While I got your attention. I would like to get some more info. I have Windows Vista on My PC and have been en Internet Explorer user since 15 years. I should change to Firefox - for some websites I even have to but I am relectant to leave the Ie that I know so well.

The most important reason I stay with Ie is the cookie management. 1. I have moved my cookie file to my data partition because I often return to previous Acronis images of my C partition. In fact - also Temporary Internet files go to another partition. I like to keep my C partition under control. 2. I have cookies set to ask each time. This sometimes gets me into trouble but then I go to Internet Options- Privacy - Websites and search for the blocked website to unblock it.

Could I do these things in Firefox???? I can't find Cookies or history location I have set Privacy to: v Remember my browsing and download history

   Remember search >NO

v Accept cookies

 Accept third party cookies Always
Keep untill : ask me every time

v Clear history when firefox closes (((seems >< with remember browsing history)

And finaly : What is Firefox location bar?

I have just Reset Firefox. When I look at privacy settings now I miss all I mentioned in previous post?????

hi, you will get more fine grained option when you switch to firefox will: create a custom history in that window.

firefox stores all your customizations, history, bookmarks etc. in your profile folder. in case you want to store that in a separate place, you could use the profile manager to create a profile in a specified location.

in regards to cookies, personally i'd comment to set keeping cookies until you close firefox and then create exceptions for sites where you want to keep logged-into across browsing sessions, which will be far less hassle. you can easily change those permissions for a particular site, by clicking on the site indicator (lock, globe) at the left of the location bar (that's just another description for the address bar) > more info > permissions.

Thanks a lot for all the help.

I created a new profile on D partition. I ran troubleshooting again and added it to the end of this post. No user.js file now.

Still have to run the malware programs but I do this very regularly so I expect no problems

Thanks for all the help. Will soon be able to use Firefox as default browser!!!!!! Marking this as solved
