I don't think the exact server name matters. Did it not connect?

The server name is irrelevant in the case of hotmail/Outlook/MSN/ whatever the latest re-launch name is. The national TLDs in particular are also irrelevant.

Internationally the settings are the same to access the email offering sponsored by Microsoft (I am reluctant to give it a name as I really am not sure what to call it.)

As Thunderbird knows the correct server setting for this I can only suggest a couple of reasons it did not work.

1. Your anti virus blocked the account configuration process. This is particularly common, especially is you set security levels in the AV to High. Temporarily disable your anti virus and see if itwill configure then 2. Your firewall /Anti virus is blocking Thunderbird from attempting to access the internet. Make sure the firewall is set to full access. 3. You are attempting to use a POP mail connection and have not enabled pop mail in your hotmail settings. 4. You are using two factor authentication with hotmail and have not created an application password for use with Thunderbird on the hotmail site.
