I tried asking what a large cross on my permissions meant but could not seem to get a direct answer although to find out there was such a thing a mixed security site was useful. I presume that X on my desired permissions means no. I read how to overcome this (I am not a tech wiz) and the first stumbling block was there was no lock on the address bar to click.

Hi Walcat, mixed content is this:

  • The address of the site you're using starts with HTTPS, and Firefox displays a lock icon
  • Some content in the page is on an HTTP address
    • Firefox goes ahead and loads the images, and shows a yellow warning triangle on the lock icon
    • Firefox blocks the scripts and other "active" content and you need to click the lock icon to allow that

Does that match what you see on the page?

Hi jscher2000,

Thanks for your reply..appreciated. I went back to my FAA upload page and I have definitely have no lock icon and no yellow triangle appears when the image is trying to finish uploading.. The only thing that appears is the symbol you click on for the drop panel for permissions etc....nothing at all changes on the page to indicate why.....so frustrating.

Cheers, Denise.

You can check the log in the Web Console for error messages about blocked or unsafe content. You can check the Network Monitor (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

You can use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

So the page must have a normal HTTP address and not an HTTPS address. Is that a problem? Are you uploading sensitive documents?

Hi,

I don't interact with many sites...just checked my pinterest account. It appears just as you say FAA should with a https address and a green lock. I am just trying to upload my photo images for sale on FAA and I have been trying for a month....FAA have not been helpful.

There is no https or http on the address bar for FAA and no green lock. Really strange. My son can upload an image to my page on his computer..(he's been pulling his hair out as well but is very busy). I will ask him to check what is showing in the address panel on his computer...won't be until tonight and will let you know

Cheers, Denise.

Hi Denise, in case it helps... Firefox doesn't bother with http:// but will show https://. If you want to always see the protocol of the current page, you can make this settings change:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste URLB and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.urlbar.trimURLs preference to switch the value from true to false

Hi jscher, OK, so the lack of http:// is normal so I won't worry about that. I think my problem might be solved if I could re-instate my green lock icon because if I understand correctly, when I try to upload, a yellow triangle will appear on it which I click and it will override the block.

So is there a simple way to re-instate the green icon?

Thanks for your help...

Denise

Hi Denise, when you are using an HTTP address, Firefox doesn't apply any mixed content blocking, so the problem must be some other kind of blocking. Can you provide more details about the message you're getting? Or possibly post a screenshot of it? (Please cut out or blur any sensitive information in the image before attaching it to your reply.)

Hi jscher

There is no message which has been frustrating me for about 5 weeks. I have been a member of FAA for about 3 years with no uploading problems. There are no messages at all.... the only thing I can see is the big X on my permissions.(I have never needed them before either) Maybe the problem is with AVG,maybe they have done some crazy security upgrade...Mozilla is my normal browser ... I did try others but unlike Mozilla they have no information at all and uploads are still blockedl.

I will start trying AVG to find a solution...my son is swinging by on the weekend some time. I will let you know if we find a solution...might help someone else.

Thank you so much for your help

Denise

Hi Walcat, it's strange that the same problem occurs in all browsers. It's definitely worth checking whether it's AVG or some other external factor.

Hi,

I should have just marked it as solved but you have been so kind and I wanted to put the solution up. The upload page which was automatically linking in when I was in my FAA account was unsecured giving problems (still can't overide this even switching off AVG so a bit of a mystery). However my son checked and a https page is available and we have bookmarked it. Just have to make sure I am on the secure one before attempting to upload. Not being a tech. person, it did not occur to me there were two pages.

Thanks for your help...it narrowed down the problem...I had a huge list of things from FAA that it could have been (this wasn't on it) and it took weeks.

Cheers, Denise.
