I use firefox and just got a new pc. I want to have the same bookmarks toolbar on firefox on the new pc. How do I export my bookmarks toolbar from my old pc?

I tried exporting/importing the "bookmarks.html" file, but the toolbar on the new pc is empty. The bookmarks toolbar was not exported.

Do I have to recreate the toolbar by hand, one site at a time? That's very bad. I have literally hundreds of bookmarks on my firefox toolbar.

I found out the answer on my own.

The answer is (as far as I know) that you can't export/import the bookmarks toolbar directly, but there's a pretty painless workaround. You can copy/paste the entire bookmarks toolbar at once. Here's how:

1) Click on the "Show Sidebars" button on the top left. It looks like a book, or an HTML page split into two frames, whatever.

2) Expand the "Bookmarks Toolbar" dropdown. On my pc It's a folder with a big star on it. I suppose because it's important. Who knows.

3) The set of bookmarks and folders that dropped down when you expanded the folder should be the same as your old firefox bookmarks toolbar. Highlight them all by left clicking on the first one, holding down shift, and clicking on the last one.

4) Once these are highlighted, just drag and drop them to your bookmarks toolbar.

Firefox should really explain this on their FAQ / instructions for importing bookmarks. Such an obviously common issue, and would save people lots of time.

Sometimes when you import an HTML backup it can happens that the Bookmarks Toolbar folder isn't recognized as the system folder, but instead get added at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder. It sounds that this happened in your case and you need to do a Copy/Cut and Paste to move these bookmarks to the correct Bookmarks Toolbar root folder.

I also have problems making a backup of my bookmarks. I remember in the past I could just copy bookmarks to a .sjon (or something like that) file. That file i could import in firefox when and where ever I wanted. Sad that I can not find that option anymore. Sorry I can not be of help otherwise.
