Hello,

I am using the latest Thunderbird version at the time of writing (68.6.0) on a Mac.

I had successfully inserted my gmail account but when I changed the password I then got a connection error from Thunderbird. I deleted the Gmail account from Thunderbird in order to insert it again.

I insert my name, user name and password, press Continue, Thunderbird makes the automatic configurations but when I press Done, I get an error of "Fail to connect with the server. Possible wrong configuration, user name or password."

I have tried a couple of things but nothing worked.

1. Initially, I turned on IMAP on Gmail account.

2. I also check the Thunderbird automatic configuration for gmail pressing manual configuration (It is the figure I uploaded, sorry for the Greek language...)

3. Following this post https://support.google.com/mail/thread/4528103?hl=en I set the general.useragent.compatMode.firefox variable to true but also didn't work. I also tried it having entered Thunderbird safe mode and also didn't work.

4. Finally I set the Less secure app access of Gmail configuration to true but did not work either.

Does anyone have any other suggestion?

Thank you in advance.

When you change a password, it's necessary to delete the old ones, and any oauth:// entries, in Preferences/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, then restart TB and enter the new password when prompted, in this case, in the OAuth browser window.

With TB 68.6, it's not necessary to change the useragent preference, and with OAuth2 authentication, it's not necessary to enable 'less-secure apps'.

Thank you @sfhowes, that was the problem.

Also thank you for mentioning the connection between OAuth and "less-secure apps"
