I've checked/unchecked the box, ran in safe mode, troubleshooting mode, reinstalled, now on new win 11 pro pc fully updated and suddenly it just downloads straight into TEMP directory and opens preview so i have to cut it out and paste it where I want it? Enough to leave this browser for good.

Enable "Always ask you where to save files" in settings, then in the Applications list below it, set everything to "Always ask", then below that for "What should Firefox do with other files?", select "Ask whether to open or save files".

Hello

This information

Frequently asked questions https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manage-downloads-preferences-using-downloads-menu#w_frequently-asked-questions When I open a file with an application, why is it also saved to my Downloads folder? Before Firefox version 98, files you opened in Firefox with an application were also saved to the system Temp folder on Windows and Linux, even though you may not have been aware of it.

SUMO community discussions Fx102 will include about:config pref to re-enable the Temp folder for downloads when opening files https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/715745

Configuration Editor for Firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox Search preference browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir If true, then the file will be saved in the temporary folder

Other information What information is stored in my profile? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data#w_what-information-is-stored-in-my-profile Download actions: handlers.json This file stores your preferences that tell Firefox what to do when it comes across a particular type of file. For example, these are the settings that tell Firefox to open a PDF file with Acrobat Reader when you click on it. For more information, see Manage file types and download actions in Firefox.

Try

Go to your profile https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile Open Folder Then shut down Firefox Then, in your profile, delete the file handlers.json or rename the file (for example) handlers.json-old Next, start Firefox

Then Perform your checks handlers.json will be recreated automatically

For information purposes You can view the contents of the file handlers.json (e.g. with Notepad)

No thanks for the canned response again. I don't understand all that you copied and pasted. If I uninstall it and reinstall it and don't sign into my account I get the same result. So why is it still happening on a brand new computer? I thought the community was for support, not DIY?

Is it about PDFs?

Hi! No it's everything! pdfs, docs, music, anything downloadable. By default location is set to downloads With the box checked to ask every time, but as soon as I download something it goes straight to the downloads folder and opens it in Firefox.
