Firefox hangs regularly (every 8-15 secs) for 1-3 secs after half an hour work. I have freshly installed my windows and firefox (without extentions) but the hangs still occured. Don't know how to fix this. Maybe this is a memory problem? (i have 4GB of RAM, which should be enough). When it hangs, it just doesn't let to scroll, write or to do anything else, but if i try to do it, it responds, but after several seconds. This happens regularly, it's very anoying, especially when it hangs while watching youtube - video stops, audio goes on, and a a video catches with a video after several seconds. Thank you for help.

Try starting Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If that fixes it, disable extensions 1 by 1 to find the culprit.

Open up the task manager and look at the memory usage. It's probably over 600MB or more. Firefox has a horrendous memory leak, and no, it's not an extension problem. Mine often ends up over 1GB, and nothing short of restarting Firefox will free the memory--not even closing every window down to a blank single page with zero tabs. Removing extensions only manages to slow the memory leak, not stop it.

Unfortunately, it appears Mozilla will never find or fix this problem, as it still persists after every update. Maybe Firefox 4.0 will resolve this issue, but I'm not holding my breath.

I use only 2 plugins, firebug and adblock plus and when I remove firebug there is no change, when I disable adblock in the extensions tab and reboot then then the problem isn't bad. It freezes for 1.5 to 2 seconds every 15 seconds or so. I've noticed it happening on 4 of my computers over 2 years, I don't know if it was so frequent though. The constant freezes don't bother me during typing or normal browsing cause I'm not missing anything but I can't tolerate it anymore on videos because I miss a lot of video moments. FF was my only browser but now it's just my main, I use another one for youtube or other flash things

I restart FF 1-2 times a day. FF usually occupies 1.5-2GB of ram (+ another 1.5-2GB virtual memory) when I restart it.

Happens to me also. There's a massive memory leak; FF4 keeps getting larger until it has used up all available RAM and swap space.

This is FF4rc2 running on Fedora 12. I've disabled all plugins, and it still happens. For what it's worth, I've got a lot of tabs open, and they do use javascript.
