I once entered an incorrect password for my Gmail account and now I have to access it via IE, although Firefox is my default browser. I have deleted all saved passwords, history and cookies, but click on Email and up comes the same page with the same 'incorrect password' message. Re-entering the correct password and the verification code just loops me back to the same old panel.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Profile Folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
