Private Browsing Tags Will NOT Turn Off!
I tried PB one time. It tagged all 4 websites I visited during that session in purple. After closing PB, those websites are STILL purple, even after closing window, erasing history, & rebooting. I'm not still in PB, since no other sites get tagged in purple.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
- You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
- To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
- Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
I am not in permanent PB mode. I have again verified that firefox is set to Use Custom Settings for History (Tools > Options > Privacy), & that permanent private browsing mode is not selected on that screen.
The websites I had used during the one initial trial of PB are still tagged in purple. No others are being tagged.

Did you try to remove those entries manually from the History?
If you do not have the need to keep data from those sites (cookies, bookmarks, password) then you can use "Forget About This Site".
These sites did not get listed in history, during PB trial. Instead they were (and still are) tagged in purple whenever I go there. Ex. Sports Illustrated. I had visited the site while in PB; site got tagged purple. Now whenever I go to that site, it still comes up tagged in purple. Why? Any way to use PB & not cause sites visited to get permanently tagged?
Nope. Just completed both of these operations once again. Neither removed purple tagging.
mha007, sorry my response above wasn't very clear. I used the steps you outlined to once again clear both cookies & cache, and network cache. Neither operation reset tags.
Thanks.
