All of installed extensions are required to be installed again for every firefox cold-start
All of installed extensions are required to be installed again upon every Firefox cold-start. Plus, My prefs.js seems to be writable.
Upon every cold-start, several pages, with address like"about:newaddon?id={fc2b8f80-d9a5-4f51-8076-7c7ce3c67ee3}", are displayed, regarding each of the extensions I have installed, saying "Another program on your computer would like to modify Firefox with the following add-on: ...". And I was asked if this installation should be permitted or not.
I suspected malwares, and did a deep system virus scan with Bitdefender, but the problem is still unsolved.
Regardless of those installation requests, the extensions were actually installed but disabled in the extension list. In Firefox 7, situation is similar, but there were no installation requests upon every Firefox cold-start.

David, I noticed the exact same problem immediately after updating to version 8. Even with version 7 support for several add-ons was sketchy - leading to constant browser restarts to maintain functionality (but only after a cold boot). This new update schedule is breaking everything.
Yes, Jack, the constant restarts are annoying. To avoid this, I choose to close all the installation requests and enable all the extensions in the extension list. This is not a solution, but it makes a cold-boot less suffering.
Hope this problem can be solved without much modification.

Same issue, and no workaround for me. Even if I click "enable" as the default setting, it'll still do it. And it's not even on cold boot, it'll randomly do it when opening it again at a later time.
yep, FF 7.0 kept freezing every 4-5 minutes or so, v.8.0 was great, but this exact problem started happening, so I tried 9.0 beta and still I get like 20 tabs with all of the add-ons to activate again and again.. which OTHER program wants to modify firefox?? this is getting really annoying, three versions of FF and not one without problems with basic functionality, I would have given up on firefox entirely if it wasn't for Download Helper, which I need desperately for work.. come on guys, don't let us down!
Sollution!
We all have Bit defender 2010 in comon. I removed it and the problem is gone. I must've made some changes in it's setrting that those things start happening. I'll try reinstaling it again to give it another chance
Cheears!
BitDefender it is then! However I'm not uninstalling my anti-virus which is stil valid for 90 days to solve this problem. I'll just switch to Chrome instead...
The problem is Bit Defender 2010. There is a fix. If you have a valid subscription to BitDefender you can upgrade to the newest version free of charge for the remainder of your subscription.
