Firefox 17 not working with Windows 8. Sites including support.mozilla.org will not load using firefox. Help Pls?

(Hi, thanks in advance) Bought a new laptop. Installed FF 17 and it does not load multiple web pages including: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/941843

Pictures, images, graphics, text, video will not load correctly. Google search results is the only page that loads fully, but then if I try to use the different options e.g. Time, it will not display the options. IE and Chrome work perfectly, though I would prefer to use FireFox

I have re-installed. Did not work I have tried Compatibility Mode for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Did not work

Any other suggestions? I would really like to use FF, IE is such a pain but its the only thing that functions!

Clearing the cache works, but the annoying thing is that you have to constantly clear the cache after visiting a website more than twice.

What I did was PERMANENTLY set the cache to 0MB

Tools>Options>Advanced>Network> Tick the box that says "Override automatic cache management" and then in the box that says "Limit cache" type 0MB "of space"

Make sure that Firefox is not blocking by Firewall/Antvirus...

Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode" To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again. If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thanks but Safe Mode did not correct anything.

I was using Windows 7 on my old laptop and never had an issue.

From day one Firefox 17 has not worked correctly with Windows 8. Definitely not an add-on problem.

Does anyone know the name of the plugin that allows you to choose older versions of FF? Can't remember the name

For anyone else with this problem try Opera. Its a very good alternative to FF and its working without a hitch so far. Please FF developers sort out this problem because I would love to use FF but it just isn't working!

Please reload the webpage while bypassing the cache using one of the following steps:

  • Hold down the Shift key and click the Reload button with the left mouse key.

OR

  • Press Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows and Linux)
  • Press Command + Shift + R (Mac)

See if this helps solve the issues you had and please report back to us!

Are you getting any error message or its crashes

__________________________________________________________________________________ We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

Thanks in advance for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.
