I had opened some sites and then closed them. But in the days that followed these sites reappear on my tabs and I have to close them again. This can happen while firefox is opened--suddenly these sites are now on my tabs. I've never had this problem before.

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Type browser.startup.homepage, right click the value that says exactly this and hit reset.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
