This is on a new Win 7 computer, and I've installed AVG Anti-virus and run a full scan. My other computer is not affected. I've gone to Firefox\options\content and selected "block pop-ups". To no avail.

And, since my homepage is my business website homepage, it's really annoying to see my own site with all these hyperlinks all over it. They all bring up a box with crap from "Ads by BetterSurf"

And the pop up boxes are really annoying too. They too have "Ads by Better Surf" labels on the bottom.

How can I get rid of "Ads by BetterSurf"?

You can check for recently installed suspicious extensions

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can check in "Windows Control Panel > Programs" for recently installed programs (sort by "Installed on") to see if anything from Conduit or any other suspicious software shows up.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
