Buttons on my bookmark toolbar use home-made favicons, not names, and they have disappeared - how do I get them back?
In order to have a lot of bookmarks available my bookmark toolbar does not use names, just favicons, which are mostly home-made. They have been stable for years but have suddenly disappeared. I have no record of what I called each favicon - how do I get them back?

Did you ever create an HTML backup of the bookmarks as that is a way to have a backup of the favicons?
Did you ever reset Firefox and possibly have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop?
How does one create an HTML backup of a bookmark? I have not, AFAIK, done this, or reset Firefox and obtained an "Old Firefox Data" folder.
The favicons that have disappeared are still there - they just don't display, there are folder icons in the bookmark toolbar in their place. If, in "Display Bookmarks", I right click on the (no title) which has replaced them and select "Export Favicon" the icon of the exported file (name_I_choose.png) is the missing favicon. And if I right click and try to "Import Favicon" the display continues to show the folder icon, but if I then re-export the favicon what I re-export is the one I imported.
It seems that Firefox does not like home-made favicons and refuses to display them. How do I persuade it to do so? I have named my favicons name.png and name.ico - should I use a different file type? Or do they need to be saved in a special place?
