TB will not let me send emails. I can receive, but not send. I have double checked the settings and even conferred with my ISP who also can't figure it out. I have resigned myself to having to export or save my emails (I have several email addresses) uninstall TB and then reinstall it to regain a working copy.

TB has slowly deteriorated over the past few months. Today I had issues with 3 out of 5 of my email accounts. one gmail and the others from my local ISP.

How can I export the messages in a format that will allow me to bring them back into an email program?

I've gotten various error messages and believe the TB software has been corrupted. IMHO the only fix is to reinstall a clean copy........

How can I make sure all traces of this copy are gone?

If you have your email account setup with as an IMAP account they should come back when you add the account again to an email client. It is best to do a full archive to be safe though. If you are moving to another email client like Outlook, try setting the email accounts up there and allow enough time to see if mail is synced through IMAP servers. If you have POP setup you will need to either migrate to IMAP or find another way to archive.

Thank you.

unfortunately my local ISP is a small company and they use POP3.

I may have to use Outlook although my Office program is 2003. But if I remember correctly - it will look for other emails and bring them in. I'll need to reinstall MS Office......... I was hoping there would be a better way.

Basically your issue will not be fixed by reinstalling.

HAving said that, most send issues once incorrect settings are excluded arise from anti virus programs (they are not all that good at mail on the whole.)

A standard diagnostic is to restart your computer in safe mode with networking and see if the issue resolves. If it does then anti virus changes are indicated until a working arrangement is found (Personally I just turn off email scanning, as it offers only marginal protection for maximum issues)

Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX

I'll give that a try, but I haven't done that yet because the issue is only with a couple of the email addresses. Not all of them. I'll check the settings on my AVAST. I don't believe I have email scanning selected, but I could be wrong...

Very familiar with safe mode. I run Windows XP Pro. I do have WIN7 on a 64 bit system, but I use that mainly for work projects and running a special printer / cutter / plotter.

I run ESET online scanner periodically. It seems to be the best way to check for virus's that other programs don't find. The system has some PUP files, but no Trojans or worse......

I'll try the safe mode and see what happens.

thanks! -susie
