how do I import email and contacts from windows 8 mail to thunderbird
Hi there,
I have Windows 8 and have been using the Windows 8 mail app. However, it is very basic so I am keen to switch to Thunderbird. However, I cannot find a way to import my mail, folders and contacts to Thunderbird from Windows 8 Mail.
There seems to be no export option on Windows 8 Mail. Thunderbird has an Import option but this is not able to locate the Windows 8 mail files.
There doesn't appear to be answer to this question in the forums. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Mark

The Win 8 Mail app is usually associated with a hotmail/live/outlook.com account, so to access it with TB, set it up as an IMAP account:

To import the contacts, open the account from the web page, export the contacts as a csv file, and follow the instructions here:

Since hotmail/outlook accounts automatically copy sent messages to the Sent folder, uncheck "Place a copy in.." under Tools/Account Settings/hotmailaccount/Copies & Folders.
