I updated to Firefox 35.0 and after I did so, I noticed that Firefox became slow and laggy, crashing more than usual. I refreshed Firefox and noticed that it had gone back to a much older setting with most of my saved passwords missing and having to re-enter them all. Now I've noticed that all my bookmarks have disappeared too! I need to get these back :( I have a folder on my desktop called Old Firefox Data that was created yesterday when I did the Refresh. It has a sub-folder called Bookmarks within if this could work, that would be great. I've also seen this link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles - but not being very tech-savvy, it has only served to confuse me more.

Could anyone please help me by way of bullet points exactly what I need to do to restore my browser either to the setting before the Refresh yesterday (spent better part of today clicking 'Forgotten Password' on various sites!), or failing that at least reinstate all of my bookmarks.

Thank you all very much!

If the Old Firefox Data contains bookmark backups, you should be able to restore those in the usual way, from the bookmarks window using "Import and Backup". Choose Restore and browse to the backup file you want to restore.

I tried this, but keep getting a message saying "Unable to process the backup file." I seem to have lost about a third of my bookmarks -- everything from about the middle of the S folder down. I tried a system restore as well, but then they all disappeared! Fortunately undoing the system restore right away fixed this, so now I do have at least a portion of my bookmarks.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder in case of issues with the bookmarks or with restoring a JSON backup.

thanks for that. I was really happy with the simple instructions given on how to restore my bookmarks from the 'old firefox data' on the desktop. worked easily and such a relief to get the bookmrks back. :-)
