Can forward a message, but cannot compose new message or reply
My 'write' button is grayed out. Forwarding is possible, sending works - so there is a workaround. But I need to be able to compose a new message too.
Thunderbird is running the most recent version (31.4.0). Add-ons up to date: - Enigmail 1.7.2 - Lightning 3.3.2 - Mail Merge 3.9.1 - Provider for Google Calendar 1.0.3 - Thunderbird Conversations 2.8.1
Windows 8.1 (update) as OS.
Do you have suggestions for or solutions to the disabled/grayed out write/compose button?

Have you tried placing an address in an address field? The newer versions disable the send button until there is something in an address field.
If that is not it restart with your add ons disabled to see if one of those are messing with you. You can do this from the Help menu.
It's not a matter of sending an email -- I wish it'd give me the possibility of filling in an email address! The issue is that I cannot compose a new message. The issue turns up at random moments. And sometimes disappears again for some time. I haven't figured out what the cause of this could be.
Sorry I misread write as send. Not enough coffee this morning. I would still try with add ons disabled to see if that helps.
