When I click on the icon to open Firefox, I get an error message. "Firefox.exe has encountered a error and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused". I have downloaded a new fresh copy and it still says that. Please help!

It looks like firefox is already running in background ,so open task manager and check in the processes tab. if any instance of firefox is running, then close it down and run it again.

next is to try with Safe Mode and see whether it runs or not ? Also Make a new profile [ http://mzl.la/1BAQGnB] and see if the crash stops.

Moreover you can scan programs with a good malware scanner .
