When I move an email to a subfolder, I can no longer see it. I can see the email on my web email page.

Seems to happen quite frequently, and does not get fixed with Thunderbird updates. I have had to delete some emails in the past to get around this problem, and recreate the folder, but this is not an acceptable solution. The mail is a yahoo account accessed by imap. Get lots of errors in the Error console, below. Any fix available without having to delete/recreate subfolders etc. Timestamp: 02/04/2015 23:46:54 Warning: Unknown property 'padding-start'. Chosen solution

to reiterate.

Have you tried right clicking the folder, selecting properties and then the repair button? Have you tried creating an exemption for the Thunderbird profile folder in your anti virus program? Have you tried disabling email scanning in your anti virus program?

Anti virus could;

  • Have quarantined the file that stores the mail for the folder.
  • It could be scanning the file that holds the content while Thunderbird is trying to index it.
  • It could be corrupting the mail as they are moved trying to add header fields about being scanned.

Anti virus programs are far from the helpful innocuous products most people see it as. It is integrated into the core of the operating system in networking security and file access. If something goes wrong it is an obvious target for malfeasance.

Lets start again hey. That error console might have a useful bit of information in it, but most of what shows up there is just junk.

Lets go to the crux of the issue. What do you mean you have to delete and recreate the folder? Have you tried right clicking the folder, selecting properties and then the repair button? Have you tried creating an exemption for the Thunderbird profile folder in your anti virus program? Have you tried disabling email scanning in your anti virus program?

Hi. No problem. thanks for your reply. These subfolders were working fine until recently. They did not fail all at once. It was when I tried to move an email to a subfolder, which then timed-out, or something like this. that then made the emails in the folder disappear. Then after a few weeks, it happened to another subfolder. It shows in the bottom left that there are a total of 21 emails in the folder, 2 unread, but the actual emails are not visible. Only a blank list remains. Other folders work ok. I can see the emails in the folders if I log into yahoo's web mail. I right clicked on the folder - properties - repair, but nothing happens/no effect. I disabled my anti-virus (avast) and re-tried to repair, but emails still not appearing. (I am not sure why the anti-virus would stop emails showing in just a couple of folders, but would be ok in the rest of them). Thanks for looking into my problem, any further help would be greatly appreciated

Hi You are correct. The anti-virus was injecting a message into every email saying that it had scanned it and no viruses were found. I amended the anti-virus program not to do this, and all my emails in all my sub-folders have re-appeared. Thank you very much for your advice and help.

Could you please advise the anti virus and version. We try and keep something of a log of Anti virus issues and which versions.
