Unfortunately, Thunderbird doesn't support Chrome OS, which means it can't be installed on a Chromebook. This question addresses the same topic: Can Thunderbird be installed on a Chrome Computer

Thunderbird and Firefox for desktop is only for Windows XP SP2 and newer, Mac OSX 10.6+ and Linux.

Maybe if you dual boot with Linux you could.
