I just updated to TB 38 and lightning is gone. I was a user prior to this update, so afaik from the release notes Lightning should have updated. When I try to install Lightning 4.0.1.2 or 4.0.1.1 as an Add On, I get an error saying the TB cannot modify the needed file. I would much rather have Lightning not bundled if being bundled means I can no longer use it. I am now going to have to try to figure out how to revert to a prior version of TB because I need my calendar!

Chosen solution

That is not a fix. That is simply backup up to a known good. In this case an old version Planning on staying there for the next 10 years? You are only the second one I have seen with this complaint. As we have no one actively trying to figure out what is the cause. A fix for you is probably never going to occur.

Here is a fix: revert to 31.7.0 (https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/31.7.0/win32/en-US/), reinstall Lightning 3.3 from the AddOns menu, then reinstall TB 38

You obviously cannot read. I did not say you stay in the old version. I said you go back to the old version, reinstall Lightning, and then reinstall the new version. I suspect there is some possibility that one has to have had the most current version of Lightning in order for Lightning to auto-install in TB 38, which seems stupid and broken but at least if you revert to the old version and update Lightning it would fix the problem.

And in 5 minutes of Googling, I found a ton of other people with this issue, so maybe you should pay more attention before you decide to respond to people with the degree of snark you employed here.

Perhaps I can not read... you get that before the sun is up sometimes. My apologies

But there is still a problem,

Each version of Lightning is Binary compatible with only one version of Thunderbird. Hence Thunderbird 31.x has Lightning 3.3 anything else will not work Just as 38 has 4.0

I do see in the releases that Lightning is now at 4.0.1.2 perhaps the updated lightning you got the second time fixed the issue you was the first. Was there a day or so between one even and the next?

I don't actually know when TB downloaded the update; there was only an hour between the two installs but it could have been a prior build that was downloaded. However, I tried downloading the Lightning extension versions 4.0.1.2 and 4.0.1.1 and neither worked.
