Can't send email - Thunderbird keeps making me log into google

I just installed Thunderbird on my laptop - version 38.3.0 and every time I try to send an email it pops up a window asking me to log into my google account, if I just cancel the pop up the email isn't sent, although it does show up in my sent folder like it was. If I log in to google it then asks me to allow Tbird and Google to 'manage' my email (Hell no) if I select Deny the email isn't sent just like before.

I am so frustrated.... either gmail or Tbird is going to go if this can't be solved. My normal computer install of Tbird doesn't do this, but that computer just went belly up so I'm stuck on my laptop and this problem.

Also, I am using my own email account as smtp outgoing email server, so I don't know why Google keeps popping up when I try to send..... I do have a gmail account (as well as others) but I don't want google or thunderbird managing my email. I also removed lighting, and have no calendars as far as I can see.

How can I stop this pop up? How can I deny google and Tbird from doing more than just downloading my email? I do not care about synchronizing.

Thanks

Thunderbird 38 introduced 'OAuth2' as an authentication method, as opposed to password based authentication. At the first time you're prompted for your Google password, and to allow Thunderbird to 'manage' (a.k.a access) your Gmail. This is legitimate security measure, and by now the only authentication method considered secure by Google. I don't know what problem you have with that.

Also, I am using my own email account as smtp outgoing email server,

If you want to use another SMTP server for your Gmail account you'll need to specify that SMTP for the account in your Thunderbird account settings.

I don't want google or thunderbird managing my email.

So then why do you have a Gmail account and why do you use Thunderbird to retrieve your Gmail in the first place? Beets me.

How can I deny google and Tbird from doing more than just downloading my email?

I don't know what you're trying to deny. Thunderbird does exactly that.

I do not care about synchronizing.

What are you talking about?
