When I send emails I get a message saying there was an error saving it to the Sent folder. A separate window shows a message that the [TRYCREATE] folder doesn't

Thunderbird seems to be working normally except for the fact that when I send emails, I get a message saying there was an error saving the email to the Sent folder. In a spearate small window off to the right, I get a message repeating the first message but adding that "the [TRYCREATE] folder doesn't exist (Failure)". So I can't see that the email has been sent although I'm pretty sure it has been. How can I resolve this please?
