I receive notice of Updates, but never seem able to "connect to server." I finally give up after waiting for 15-20 minutes.

I seem NEVER able to update even though Firefox asks me to do so every other week or so. When I click on Update, I get the same visual that suggests an attempt to connect to the server. The attempt NEVER succeeds (at least not within 15-20 minutes).

Chosen solution

If there a problem with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the Disk Image file to the desktop

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you were a Windows user we would probably blame third party security software as being the likely culprit. Not sure what is causing your issue. You are well out of date and so I recommend you first of all backup the Firefox profile, to make sure all bookmarks and logins etc are kept safe.

Firefox tries to retain that information but with such a jump from Firefox 18 to 45 I am not sure how well it will succeed. Next install the current version from getfirefox.com or mozilla, see
