When Thunderbird blocks remote content in my email messages, my "preferences" button doesn't work - it used to - how do I fix this?

I am not able to see the remote content of messages, the preferences button in the warning doesn't show any preferences - it used to let me select "allow this time"

Chosen solution

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:

Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

Yes, the button is there. By the way, the drop down "Tags" doesn't work either...

It might just have needed a start in safe mode. Sometime that does it and we do not know why. But if you determine a cause please post. We only learn for the successes.
