I am trying to import old Outlook emails in PST folders to Thunderbird. I have created a new local folder in Tbird but there is no "import" facility when I right click on it.

I am using Windows 10

Thanks

MailStore Home is a free program for home users.

It will archive e-mails from many e-mail programs, including Microsoft Office Outlook. Then it can be used to "export" that archive to many different e-mail programs, including Thunderbird.

This is the best, easiest way, and it is free for home users.

You cannot import pst files, they are Microsoft specific.

You need to get it either converted into mbox files or using Outlook save the emails as individual .eml files to a folder on eg: your desktop.

You can then import .eml files or mbox files into Thunderbird using this addon extension: ImportExportTools

In order to install a downloaded extension, please do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Drag your downloaded XPI file to the Add-ons Manager tab and drop it.

or

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Click the gear icon at the top-right corner to the left of the search box and select Install Add-on From File…
  3. Locate the XPI file you downloaded and click Open.

You may need to restart Thunderbird when prompted. For more detailed instructions and information about installing add-ons, see Installing an Add-on in Thunderbird.

Thanks - I am a bit confused because some of the past posts referred to imports of PST files into Tbird, using a right click on a new local folder to show an "import" option..

I am searching for an email programme that will import PST files and I thought Tbird did that but If I understand your reply correctly, this will be a fruitless task.

I have thousands of emails so an EML conversion will not be practical. Do you know how to convert a PST file into an Mbox file ? Thanks
