How is the situation now, concerning the end of support for Vista-users ?

On it's site, Firefox announces: "Important - Firefox is ending support for Windows XP and Windows Vista", stating that security updates will continue untill September 2017. And then: "In mid-2017, a final support end date will be announced" [...]

Also, on the same page it is announced that by March XP and Vista users "will automatically be updated to the Extended Support Release [hyperlinked] version of Firefox." Sounds good: users should - according to this - still continue enjoying some form of support. However, when following the hyperlink, one is informed that this only is valid for GROUP - users ! What about that? Not ALL users ? So the quoted text is incorrect ?!?

Any information on that ? Maybe the forum is not the right place to answer my question, but since Firefox itself seems to stay mum...

ESR version has been designed for organizations, but individual users may use it as well. And all XP and Vista users have already received an update to this channel.

Hi TyDraniu,

Thanks ! Your answer was partly helpful, confirming that users already have automatically received an update to the ESR version, as promised in the original "Important - [...]" - warning (see my earlier quote).

I was not aware having received the update; I did not see any notification to that effect. Where can I check if I indeed have been updated ? Is it visible somewhere?

Further, I still should like to have a 'status report' concerning the 'final support end date' ( "In mid-2017, a final support end date will be announced"). So far, I did not see any further notification.

Does anyone know more?

Note that this last date would be mid-2018 when Firefox ESR switches from 52 ESR to 59 ESR.

Yes, it is visible under Help -> About Firefox. You should have a note: Now you're using this update channel: esr. Otherwise you can press Check for updates button.
