How to discover which version I was using prior to upgrading to Quantum,

more options

Hello,

Having upgraded to Quantum, a critical extrension has been disabled and made 'legacy'. I need data from that extension. I need to export an OPML file from it so that I can load that into a new alternative extension that is compatible with Quantum. The legacy extension in question is Bamboo Feed Reader (BFR).

However, because I can't access BFR from Quantum, as far as I can see I need to do the following: • Roll back my browser version to that which I was using this morning, in order to have BFR be compatible, and available. • Export the OPML data from BFR • Exit the old version of Firefox. • Re-update to Quatum, which will be the ongiong browser from that point forward.

In order to achieve those things, I need to know: • Which version of the browser was I using this morning, and thus which is the one to which I need rollback? • How do I roll back?

Any guidance on these last two points, or alternative strategy wisodm is very gratefully received.

Kind Regards, insomniacfolder

Simply open up the location of your current profile, this can be done with about:profiles, and drag or copy that folder to the desktop -- Then create a new profile and set it as default. After you do this download the Firefox ESR installer, and before you run it uninstall your current version of Firefox. Then run the ESR installer -- after it has been installed copy the contents of the copy of the profile folder you made on your desktop to your new profile folder (the same location where your previous profile folder was)

Hi, if you were on the stable release channel, you were previously on 56.0.2! If you would like to continue using your legacy add-ons (until at least May 2018) you can switch to Firefox 52 ESR. You can get it from here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

Please do note that you will have to backup your current profile first -- and use a fresh profile with Firefox 52 ESR. But not to worry when using the new profile, open it's respective folder and paste in the backed up files from the old profile, and all should be good again!

Hello Mkll , Thank you for the prompt response. If I back up to 56.0.2 do I need to backup the profile? Or is that for 52 ESR? Or both?

Is there a standard guide to profiles and how to back them up, of which you are aware, that I should be following?

I'm happy not to use the legacy extension, so long as I can get this one time data dump from it. Kind Regards, insomniacfolder

Actually, I've found an alternative for your legacy extension -- that works with Quantum: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/feedbroreader/

Thank you. I did look at Feedbro, but it runs from a Google API that apparently doesn't allow it to also work in Private tabs, from which some part of the work would be carried out - so it was not viable. I shall try to make the changes now...
