How can I change where automatically opened files are downloaded to?

I need 1 of 2 options.

1. Have doc/docx files to either automatically download (to the specified folder) and then open automatically. OR 2. Specify where automatically opened files are downloaded to (instead of the temp dir).

I tried changing where the Cache location is stored (browser.cache.disk.parent_directory/browser.cache.offline.parent_directory) but they do not change where automatically opened files are downloaded. Not sure if this is expected behavior or not.

Hello, you can change where Firefox downloads files to by going to about:preferences by typing it in your URL bar, scrolling down until you see 'Files and Applications' and then choosing either to set a different folder than Downloads, or 'Always ask you where to save files.'

Files that are opened and not saved are stored in the temp folder, this can not be changed.

If you can't change where the temp files are located, is there a way to automatically open them after downloading them to a specific folder?

My biggest issue is that when it puts it into the temp folder, for some reason, it's also read-only.

You can also save the file, and then click on it in the Download menu to open it.
