Updated to newest versions today and hate the new tabs page. How do I get new tabs to open to a specific page.

See above, before the upgrade today my new tabs would open a specific page, I think I had to use the about:config to set that up but that now seems not to be an option. I hate the new tabs protocol with this upgrade and may roll back a release.

Hi needmore, since Firefox 41, if you can remember that far back, you have needed an add-on to substitute a different page for the new tab page. Some of those add-ons may have worked by reading a preference in about:config.

As of now, this is one of your best choices for Firefox 57+:
