Trying to insert animated GIFs into Thunderbird email -- they don't animate

I am trying for the first time to insert an animated GIF into an outgoing email. The instructions seem fairly straightforward: Insert - Image - then type the URL of the image into the Image Location box. I do this, and I can see a "Preview" which shows the animated GIF just as it should appear. However when I actually send the email, the recipient receives it with the image, but not the animation. (I have verified this by sending email to myself to test it out). It is simply a non-moving image, like an Emoji. Does anyone have some idea what I am doing wrong?

I am using Thunderbird 60 Beta, but I insert an animated gif image into an email, the animation appears in the preview, not in the email. When I receive in the animation displays.

I would therefore suggest you try a restart with add-ons disable and see if you have an add-on that is causing your gifs to not animate.
