Using Lightning and Thunderbird with CalDAV calendars for a while on a Mac, no problem.

Went to set up Lightning 5.4.9.1 on Thunderbird 52.9.1 with a Windows 7 machine today and authentication happens fine, the calendar is added (with no yellow triangle to indicate an issue etc). Then the calendar is greyed out and unchecked in the calendar list, (clicking on the checkbox does not check them). So I right clicked on my calendars, selected "Properties", and in the resulting window checked the "Switch this calendar on" box. The calendar would be switched on for about a second, then suddenly disable itself again.

Saw this same problem posted about a year ago (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1159712) but I'm not dealing with an ownCloud server (I think it's a phpiCalendar calendar server with publishing via WebDAV). I see there was a Lightning release yesterday...

Chosen solution

Most probable is issues with anti virus and firewall. One of the reasons MAC folk love their Apple products. No security software to stop everything working correctly.

The caldav process uses port 8008 and 8443 you might find your anti virus either blocks them, or gives low priority as it is not "internet"
