We have every new Firefox that comes out. We designate it to open upon startup. However, ONLY Firefox 56 opens. How do we get Firefox 56 NOT the default browser and allow the new Firefox to be the only default browser? (IMac OSX El Capitan)

Did you try to drag the Firefox 56 application to the trash in case you have two Firefox versions installed, although that would require special handling on Mac (i.e. rename the Firefox application folder)?

Refuses to go in the trash. bounces right back into the Applications folder.

Try to boot in Safe Mode.
