How can I stop Firefox from OPENING EVERY LINK WHICH I PASS OVER WITH THE CURSOR? Before I can get to the link I want, the browser opens links in between!

more options

Since we got this new computer, Firefox is not the same. (Firefox 61.0.2) There is no way to move my cursor across the page, without the browser opening links which I pass over. It takes a long time and many returns to the original page, before I can click on the intended link.

Is this a particular setting on the browser that I could change or is it always going to be this way? I am used to running the cursor from the edge of the screen to the link I want, but can no longer do that. I must find the correct link with my eyes, which is difficult sometimes, since there is so much on the screen and using the cursor to help pinpoint my target helps. But meanwhile, as I'm headed for the link, it opens whatever links I pass over on my way to the correct link. It's driving me crazy and making the process of going about my business VERY slow, VERY SLOW!

Thanks for any help or ideas on this. I have tried to find settings and cannot figure out what to do, or if this is just par for the course with this version of Firefox?

This is not normal. Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?
