Can you please download Firefox 70, and let me know if it still crashes?

Hi Tyler, I did - and it is just the same as every other release from 63.0 onwards.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Did you try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox ?

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that works.

• Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
• Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

You can also try the 32-bit Firefox version.

I have tried starting Firefox in 'Safe' mode and it made no difference. I tried disabling hardware acceleration and that made no real difference either. Here are some crash report URLs from this morning, with Firefox 70.

I don't think that the problem is Windows-related as all versions of Firefox up to and including 62.03 work fine, just no releases from then onwards.

One additional point that might be worth mentioning is that before they crash these later releases often seem to exhibit very slow/hanging TLS handshakes.

Looks like there's something wrong with the GPU.

Enter about:config in the URL bar and set gfx.webrender.all = false. Then restart the browser.

The parameter gfx.webrender.all was already set to false when I checked it.

When I get the TLS handshake hangs - which sometimes seem to be a precursor to a crash - I notice that there is one particular thread consuming 15-50% of my CPU.

Can you try a few things (these crashes are kinda all over the place so lets try a scattershot approach):

• Download Malwarebytes from www.malwarebytes.com, run a full scan, remove anything it finds.
• Update your graphics driver, Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL
• Check for any Windows updates
• Finally, if you're still crashing, Turning off hardware acceleration

- Malwarebytes finds nothing
- The Nvidia device drivers are already at the latest version (436.48)
- Windows is also completely up to date
- Hardware acceleration is already turned off

FF 62.0.3, of course, continues to work flawlessly!
