I am not using Kaspersky though. I am using AVG.

I do have this issue. It is a locked setting. It seems I need to change this to false to correct my issue. Are you aware of a method of changing this setting? Also, it is it recommended to change it?

The most common way a setting would be locked is an Autoconfig file. Because this involves two files with potentially variable names, it is difficult for me to tell you exactly what you'll find, but here is the first place to look:

• 64-bit path: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref
• 32-bit path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref

Normally, this folder only has a file named channel-prefs.js which is legit. If you have other files here, especially JavaScript/JScript files (.js extension), those could be involved in locking preferences. You could move alien files out of this folder for later scrutiny so Firefox doesn't find them at startup.

I don't see any files in the pref other than the channel file.

I'm afraid the customizing autoconfig is well beyond my abilities.

Hmm, could it be a hidden file? You can set Windows to show hidden files using the steps in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

If there isn't a file there pointing Firefox to some lockPref() rules in another file, maybe it's a "Policy". To view policies being applied to your browser, try typing about:policies into the address bar and pressing Enter to load the page.

I did not locate any hidden files.

There is a policy : ImportEnterpriseRoots true

I disabled some of the web protections in AVG. And deleted a registry line that was mentioned in a few of your links. The policy is now gone and Firefox is working normally.

I deleted the entire folder. AVG has created a new policy, but I simply deleted it again.

If the preference is italicized and indicate a status of "locked" then either it's a Policy or we'll need to investigate further.

You can inspect the Mozilla and Firefox keys with the Windows Registry Editor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and possibly in HKEY_CURRENT_USER with the Windows Registry Editor to see whether GPO policy rules are active.

Note that the mere presence of the "MozillaFirefox" key is sufficient to make Firefox display this notification, so if you have the Firefox key then remove it and only leave the Mozilla key or remove this key as well if it is empty.
