Thunderbird is putting a symbol and a number in my Folders list (see image). What is it? My first guess was that it indicates an unread message in a subfolder, but I can't find any such unread message.

Thank you.

Chosen solution

Then right click the folder, select properties and then repair the folder to rebuild the index that is reporting unread messages.

Note that in IMAP accounts, there can be sub folders on the server that are not subscribed that can contain reported sub folder messages.

your first guess is right, but that it has that down arrow tells you the count includes sub folders of the one it is displayed on.

And yet there are no unread messages in any of the subfolders.
