Seeing my replies in inbox window

I keep my TB open to my inbox. When a new message comes in it is highlighted (good), and then when I reply there is an arrow next to the message showing that I have replied. But the only way currently that I can see my reply (after the fact) is to go into my sent messages folder. I would like to have it set up so that by clicking on the message in the inbox I can see the original message, then my reply, and then any reply back etc. etc. I am weaning myself off of G-mail, but that is how it works in that system. Even on my Android smart phone, I see the full thread of the conversation until such time as I either archive or delete it. I'm sure there is a way to set this up in TB, but I can't figure it out. Also it seems now that replies to replies show up in my inbox as a new message, not part of the thread. I would appreciate help in setting this up. I'm new to this system. Thanks.

Chosen solution

You are buried with choices.

In my Thunderbird I place a copy of sent mail in the folder containing the message I am replying to. (that is in account settings > copies and folders for each account) This relies on me having set the "view" menu item "sort by" top threaded

You also have to option to right click any message and see it in the conversation view, which will bring all the parts together from wherever they are stored

Finally if you are enamored with the gmail view of the world. (I have always hated it) The conversations addon is probably exactly what you want. https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/gmail-conversation-view/

(Note to install the addon go to addons and themes on the menu and search for the addon name and click the Add to Thunderbird button don't download from the link. It just makes installing harder.)
