Firefox Theme keeps reverting back to an old theme I no longer have or remember whenever I sign into any Firefox browser.

more options

Whenever I sign into Firefox, all my themes, add-ons/extensions are added via Firefox Sync. That's fine, but the problem I have is that whenever I sign into any Firefox browser, an old theme I used to have that I no longer have on my account keeps coming back, and I've tried to find solutions to this issue, but none have had this kind of issue. It may be similar to issues those have had, or currently have, but I can't seem to do anything to remedy this issue.

Keep in mind that this is not a Firefox browser issue, it is an account issue.

I'd be deeply grateful to any assistance you may have for me.

Hi

If you follow this guide you will be able to remove the theme from Firefox:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-themes-change-look-of-firefox#w_remove-themes

Your Firefox Account (and Firefox Sync) is not an online backup, it is used to transfer bookmarks, passwords and other data between copies of Firefox. I am guessing that you have the option to transfer add-ons selected and it it is picking this theme.

Yeah, I do have it enabled to take over the add-ons, and this may be making this theme appear every time, but the issue is, is that I don't really want to have to constantly re-add my add-ons for the theme change to stop.

Besides, the theme isn't anywhere on my Firefox Account, and it keeps coming back. I've checked every nook & cranny in the browser, and the theme that keeps coming back is not there to select at all. It just simply comes back on its own at random, and it doesn't want to leave. There is unfortunately no option to delete it, because it's not there in the Extensions & Themes area.

Okay. You will not be able to see any of your data in your Firefox Account, it is transferred through Firefox Sync between your copies of Firefox and is not designed as online storage.

Assuming you have removed that theme, turn off the add-ons option in the Firefox Sync settings.

Then trigger a manual sync by selecting "Sync Now". This will sync the data (subject to options selected). Once done, turn on the option to include add-ons again and again trigger a manual sync.

I hope that this helps.

Unfortunately, it hasn't worked, and it has come back again. It's been doing this for months, and I hoped over that time, that it would go away, but like a bug (which this is), it has come back, and each time I enable and disable a theme, it is stubborn and refuses to be told to stop coming back.

Is it a built-in theme (System, Light, Dark), or one of the seasonal Colorways themes that was bundled with Firefox, or a third party (Add-on) theme?

If it's still active, you could get the "ID" of the unwanted theme as follows (you also can set Firefox not to sync the active theme ID so that your installations can have different themes):

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future. Since we are diagnosing an issue, I feel comfortable mentioning it.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste activeThemeID and pause while the list is filtered

Firefox should display one or two preferences and a bar to add a new one.

(3) You can select and copy the value of extensions.activeThemeID which should identify the unwanted theme more particularly

(4) To prevent synchronizing the currently selected theme of any particular Firefox installation to the others, which allowed having different themes in different Firefox profiles, double-click the services.sync.prefs.sync.extensions.activeThemeID preference to switch the value from true to false
