File that contains automatically saved Bookmarks

I can manually save copies of Bookmarks with export to a file. Where does Firefox save them, how often, when, and where are the 15 backups. Would like the safety of copying and saving to an off computer drive.

Now remembering, I see them from: Help, Trouble Shooting Information Mode, Profile Folder (Open) then bookmarksbackup Folder. Should I then save the most recent dated version?

Note that the automatically saved backups in the bookmarkbackups folder are compressed .jsonlz4 files, so you can only restore them in Firefox or possibly use this tool.

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.
