I get a lot of receipts emailed to me as pdf's. The subject line of the email is generic with no indication of what is within, the receipt file name is a number. I keep the emails in a "receipts" folder. Occasionally I need to look for a particular receipt for a product, which I currently have to do by trial and error by opening each email, then the attachment and read it. Is there a way to search pdf's attached to email without having to do this?

My personal belief is that people want Thunderbird to do everything, yet its strength is as an email management tool. To search PDF files, I suggest getting another tool. I use a freeware one from inforapid dot com that search all files in a a folder for specific text. The product hasn't been updated in 19 years, but is a jewel for text searches.

I believe it searches everything within a defined folder and its subfolders. Give it a try, it's free.
