Hi, I had the idea to try Opera browser as I saw various videos about it. Firefox does slow me down at times even though it's what I have used for years.

Soon after, I defaulted back to using Firefox but the settings must have gotten changed. Everytime I wish to log in to any site, I have to type in my email again. The passwords usually are the old ones that show up.

With Amazon for instance. I must sign in and verify with codes sent to my mobile few times a day. I have searched for help online and gone through the cookies and history and privacy settings, turn this on or that off, don't do this and don't do that. Despite all that, the sites don't remember my email logins. If I go from voucher code to another site, it doesn't remember my credentials, so I don't get the deal or voucher. Amazon on my mobile works perfect but on my laptop, it's just a nightmare to have to sign in and verify each time. Outlook refuses to recognize my password most times and so it goes on.

If I cannot fix this asap, I will then have to remove Firefox as a browser altogether and find anything else that works! Please advise. Last time I reached out to Firefox, I never heard back! Fingers Crossed x

Some sites require sites requires authentican as security measures to verify the login match the registered user especially for Desktop as that can change from user to user. As to App Amazon has their own app and registered user so it's not the same here. If you turn off the computer or restart you have to sometimes re-login if your off for a period of time or you have ads blocker causing your logins to be remove whenever you close the Browser or logout. But this sounds like on your Desktop and Browser have ads blocker or blocker blocking the Browser from remembering the logins or credentials to save them and have to go and check what Addons is blocking this as well. By default my Firefox remember logins and credentials every time I go to that specific site and only the password is what I have to remember correctly to login.

Detail like websites remembering you and log you in automatically is stored in cookies, so make sure you aren't clearing important cookies.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.

  • create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you

You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" to clear cookies keeps cookies with an allow exception
    in 102+ version toggling this setting makes changes to the "Clear history when Firefox closes" settings and those settings prevail
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" in Firefox 102+ honors exceptions and keeps cookies with an allow exception, previous versions removed all cookies

Make sure to keep the "Site settings".

  • clearing "Site settings" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions"
  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history":
    [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" -> Settings

Thanks for the detailed response. Much appreciated. So, as it stands: The only cookies it was deleting was under Privacy settings  Custom  Within this there were a few options from cross site tracking cookies, cryptominers, known and suspected fingerprinters etc. I have unchecked just the Cookies option here, so it won’t block any cookies. Maybe that makes a difference, lets see, or the rest of the settings seem to be correct as others have pointed out. Then I have “Tell websites not to track or share my data” ticked. Under Cookies and Site Data, The option to Delete Cookies and site data when Firefox is closed was/is not selected. Under PASSWORDS, to save, remember, suggest, email masks or breached notifications are all selected and the next 3 points from except require device to sign in etc. are unchecked. • History section is on Custom where always use Private browsing is off but remember history etc. are all selected, including clear history when closing Firefox, as you highlighted in your response. I have no exceptions in place because I am not deleting or blocking cookies. In the extensions and themes,

• You Tube Add Blocker is ON. • I don’t care about Cookies extension is also ON that gets rid of cookie warnings from other sites. • And Cookie Auto Delete extension that deletes unwanted cookies from closed tabs whilst keeps the ones you want is also ON.

These extensions remain unchanged for as long as I can remember. Its when I moved to Opera and then back to Firefox, it got messed up.

lets see if the problem persists or improves. or else, i will just get rid of Firefox after so many years of using it. :(

And for Markwarner - Thanks as well and i understand what you mean and sometimes it can log you out but doing it everyday, few times a day, on multiple sites, gets very annoying. Its like if the Face ID on iphone stops, and you turn off remember login/password, then you got to enter all the logins and passwords every time. feels like that. lol thx

The other problem is no one here can see what changes or no changes from Firefox default settings are to know what is causing the lost logins but my Firefox with standard settings and remembering login/pswd never looses the login but ask me to choose the login info to log to site even when I restart my computer.

What data do you clear in the Settings of "Clear history when Firefox closes" ?

hi sorry for not getting back sooner. was losing faith in Firefox. In the settings you asked, i have history and cache selected to be cleared when i close. Cookies and site data and site settings remain unchecked, so they wont be deleted.

i still have the same issue with most sites, especially amazon with verification etc. It logs me out from websites, if i click through something like voucher codes to a linked site for a promotion, that doesnt get clocked, whether icloud or another, even if i change the password and click remember me, it doesnt. it remembers an older password by default. I am now forced to use firefox less and less. Do they not have support besides relying on others to help? lol thx s

Hey Sharad, this is one of those points where you have to commit to testing Firefox with all your addons disabled for at least a few days. I believe some of your addons are causing the problems. The ones dealing with cookies seem the most likely. So try disabling the "I don’t care about Cookies" extension. Even if it claims to only get rid of cookie warnings from other sites. I read on Reddit that this addon uses a ton of resources so it could be causing unexpected problems. See here: You should know: the extension "Still don't care about cookies" is a massive performance hit https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1dt5yte/you_should_know_the_extension_still_dont_care/

And also disable the Cookie Auto Delete extension. Even though that's a good addon as well. It could be part of the problem. I would also disable AdBlocker for YouTube. I just read in its Reviews section for multiple people that it breaks uploading videos to Youtube. Reviews: By Firefox user 18523021, a month ago Somehow it blocks uploading to Youtube. My videos would get stuck at 0%. I've double checked, this is the extension that causes it. By Archer, a month ago This addon BREAKS uploading videos to Youtube

Do you have any more addons installed? For example, I have the ClearURLs addon. It strips tracking info from very long urls. I love that addon but I found out it breaks a few sites for people in very unexpected ways. It causes trouble on Amazon and a few more websites. So now I have to watch this addon very closely if anything goes wrong. Reviews: Oct 9, 2024 It used to work without problems, but recently stopped Google Docs (Sheets) from creating dialogs or pop ups such as Crtl+F... Sept 9, 2024 Breaks Amazon Prime! Causes website (amazon.com) to return a "That shouldn't have happened." error message. Then, you can't even SELECT a video, without the error message. Jun 22, 2024: It's a great extension, but it's no longer being maintained. It caused Prime Video to break for me. It needs to be updated. 7 months ago Works. But, it needs a site whitelist capability. Ex. This addon block's Amazon's "Sort by" changing to anything but "Featured". So "Price low to high" etc. changes back to "Featured". Only way to fix is to disable extension. Till then it gets 1 star. 5 stars when fixed. 5 months ago The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is there should be an option to disable per site. It breaks certain important sites, such as USPS. 2 months ago Prevents Google Authentication from working. Probably Googles fault for refusing to function with tracking elements removed. Regardless, it's a deal-breaker 2 months ago Broke Google Maps and authentication by Firefox user 12667629, 2 years ago I've been using this addon for years, but recently found it it was breaking the ability to log into playstation.com / sony.com. I suspect it may have been causing issues in the past, but it was not until this issue that I finally made the effort to isolate the root cause. This addon will be forever removed.

Addons - Love/Hate relationship: I love addons more than anyone else but these days either the websites are making a lot of changes that break the addons or the addon themselves are breaking parts of Firefox driving the users and the support people crazy trying to figure out the problem.

This is the BIG reason why I stopped installing multiple addons and will ONLY surf the internet with ONE addon installed: uBlock Origin. If I need another addon, I will install it and test it for a LONG time to see if it causes any crazy side effects. If even the smallest thing goes wrong after adding another addon, I rush to the Add-ons Manager and disable ALL addons to make sure they are not the problem.

Also I'm not going to lie and say constantly being prompted for verification to login to websites is okay. But if you use addons, the internet is fighting back. They don't like it when we block parts of it. So you could consider either using Firefox with only 1 ad blocking addon installed or keeping whatever addons you like but disabling them all when you have a big problem. For me, uBlock Origin as my only addon has been great.

You can also use a dual browser method: Keep your Firefox with whatever addons you like that fix annoyances or block things that Chrome and Edge can't. But also use Edge or Chrome or whatever browser when you reach a website that is giving you major problems.
