I do not see the padlock on secure sites, recently downloaded v.4

I have a MacBook Air, and always in the past saw the padlock displayed when accessing secure sites. Recently I noticed the padlock not displaying. I recently downloaded version 4 of Firefox but can't swear that the problem started immediately after this download, unfortunately. Any ideas?
