I had a beta version of Firefox and got fed up when there were certain websites, like Google, that would not open up, or would crash shortly after the website loaded up. I uninstalled that version of Firefox and attempted to install Firefox 5.0. I was able to download the installation software through the Internet Explorer web browser. I have the software on my Desktop. I have attempted to install it and after the installation is complete, I am prompted to restart my computer. When I restart my computer, the Firefox program is nowhere to be found. I am going around and around in circles and need help.

Have a look at this How to install Firefox on Windows. The article includes screenshots and a short video. Post back with how you get on, i am sure someone will continue to try and help.

Note in particular references to User Account Control, and the possibility Security software may try to interfere with installing new browsers (May need to temporarily disable security software - what Security software is in use ?)
