I have the settings for clear history when Firefox closes active and have cache checked. However, after closing, and relaunch, when I type about:cache I have all the cache entries from before. But if I used the tools menu clear recent history, then the cache entries are gone. The automatic clear on Firefox closing appears not to work.

Ahah! I removed NoScript and now it is fine. Downloads are faster too. There may be another difficulty also resolved. Whatever protection NoScript offers, it seems to cause strange problems.

It can also be caused by Firefox not closing properly.
