I have both a Windows machine (running Win7) and a Linux machine (running Ubuntu). Nether one of them can use the control-click functionality to open a new tab in the browser, and my Windows machine cannot middle-click either (I have not tried using my mouse on my Windows machine, but I fail to see why there would be any difference).

Check out this other thread: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/871976

It's a bug in Greasemonkey, not Firefox. Latest version of GM (0.9.11) fixes the bug. Get it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ As of the time I wrote this, that version hasn't been verified by Mozilla, so checking for updates and what have you will still get you the 0.9.10 version of GM, so make sure you download 0.9.11.
