To delete a bookmark I go to that site and select the blue star. The edit bookmark box opens, but the button at the top, which should say something, e.g. Delete, is just blank and there seems to be no functionality to the edit function. I downloaded and reinstalled Firefox, but this made no difference.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
