There are three SWEDISH UMLAUT letters (and three capital umlaut letters)! When I hold down the ALT key and then sequentially type on the NUM pad the numbers 1 3 2, I get the Swedish letter ä. Great, but when I hold down the ALT key and type sequentially on the NUM pad the numbers 1 3 4 or 1 4 8 for the other two LOWER case letters, FIREFOX goes BONKERS and I do NOT get the requested umlaunt letters! Why? The codes for the three CAPITAL Swedish umlaut letters are ALT 1 4 3, 1 4 2, and 1 5 3! D. G. Eksten,

Have you considered simply switching keyboard layouts when you want to type in another language? You can set up Windows to switch layouts with a key combination like Ctrl + Shift. For details, see the following link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-your-keyboard-layout

Your issue may be caused by an add-on. See the following support article for details: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes
